Kicking off the SF Beer Week’s highly publicized event was the Double IPA Festival in Hayward, CA at The Bistro. A lineup of over 40 delicious Imperial IPA’s awaited a large group of craft beer enthusiasts. Deano and I headed over to the event early to make sure we got some of the best sweet nectar this event had to offer. And let me tell you, very few disappointed.
We paid $40 bucks to get in, which got us 15 drink coupons and a very nice taster glass (yes it was real glass!). The entire block of Main St. was blocked off from B St. all the way to C St. Shortly after taking a quick peek at the two tents of beers on tap, we decided on our first beer and cheers’d to the tasty goodness. Seconds later, we turn to each other and realize neither one of us brought a camera, fail. The next couple hours were spent trying almost every beer we could get our hands on. The long list of what we tried includes:
Avery – Ale to the Chief
Deschutes – Hop Henge Experimental IPA
Dogfish Head – 120 Minute IPA
Marin Brewing – White Knuckle IPA
Napa Smith – New Albion Pale Ale
Russian River – Pliny the Younger
Stone – Sublinely Self Righteous Ale
Besides awesome beer, I was able to meetup with some awesome people as well. Both @TheChadd and @BeerMerchants were on hand and stopped by to say hello. In addition to that, Deano and I had a nice conversation with Sam Coligione of Dogfish Head, followed by a lengthy conversation with Vinnie Cilurzo from Russian River and Ricardo of Bear Republic. All in all, amazing way to kick off the week.
